What types of cable do we buy?
The price of your cable is determined by the exchange — that is, how many percent of the cable's weight is pure metal (usually copper).
1. Installation cable (40-60% Yield)
The most common type in renovations and new construction (e.g. EKK, ECLK). This cable is rigid and contains a high copper content.
- Value: It's loud.
2. Mixed cable/Household cable (approx. 30-40% Yield)
This category is often referred to as “plug cable”. It's thinner, soft cords from computers, lamps and appliances. They have more plastic relative to copper.
- Value: Means.
3. Power Cable & Copper Cable
Thicker cables used in industry. These can have very high copper levels and give the best pay.
- Value: It's very loud.
4. Aluminum Cable (Alu Cable)
Some electrical cables have conductors made of aluminum instead of copper. Aluminum is lighter and cheaper than copper, yielding a lower price per kilogram, but it is still recyclable.
Today's Price of Cable Scrap
The price of cable follows the price of copper on the world market (LME). Right now, the price for standard copper cable is often between 35—52 SEK/kg, depending on the quality and copper content.
Hint: Sort your cable! If you mix copper cable with aluminum cable or cables with large plugs (which weigh a lot of plastic/iron), you risk getting a lower average price for the whole lot.
