Copper: The Most Valuable Scrap — What Controls the Price?
Koper is undoubtedly the king of scrap metal, with a price often 20 times higher than scrap iron per unit weight. To understand the price of copper, you need to know its classifications:
- Millberry: This is the purest form of copper, usually pure, shiny copper wire with a diameter of at least 1 mm. It always gives the highest price.
- Electrolytic Copper: Also very clean, but may have oxidized or are in the form of pipes and sheet metal.
- Mixed Cable/Copper Cable: Value, copper yield (the proportion of pure copper relative to insulative plastics and other materials). A cable with 50% copper yield makes half as much as Millberry.
TIPS: To maximize your price on scrap copper, it is crucial that you clean off all plastic insulation.
Maximizing the Price of Your Scrap: 3 Critical Factors
The daily rate you see above is a starting point. Your actual price is influenced by how well you prepare the material and the financial drivers.
1. Purity and Pollution
This is the single most important factor. A scrap dealer assesses the scrap metal purità. If your material is mixed with plastic, concrete, rubber or iron contaminants, the merchant will have to spend time and resources processing it. This is deducted from the price.

- Large Quantities: Companies that deliver large, even volumes (e.g. per tonne) are often able to sign more favourable contracts than those that submit small quantities.
- Transportation cost: If Skrotify (or another merchant) has sent a truck to collect the scrap, the shipping cost will be deducted from your price. Submitting smaller volumes yourself often pays off.
