When does the scrap value cover the shipment?
In order for you to have your scrap picked up “for free” (or actually get money over after shipping is paid for), we look at three factors:
- Density of material: Iron requires large volumes to carry a transportation cost, while just a few hundred pounds of copper or brass make retrieval very profitable.
- Volume and weight: A whole load of mixed metal scrap amounting to at least 20-30 tons from a demolition or scavenging almost always covers the logistics cost.
- Distances: The closer you are to one of our connected facilities, the lower the threshold for a free pick-up.
Avoid “black” takeaways
There are operators who offer to “pick up scrap for free” without being authorized. This often poses a risk to you:
- Environmental responsibility: Without proper documentation, you will not know if environmentally hazardous substances are being handled correctly.
- ID Requirements: Serious companies require ID checks according to Swedish law to discourage trade in stolen goods.
- Non-reimbursement: Often the scrap is worth more than the shipping — at Skrotify we make sure you get the excess deposited into your account.

- Scenario C: Low volume. If the amount is too small to cover diesel and labor, you will receive a price proposal for removal — or the advice to collect more to reach profitability or leave to another nearby operator.
