Aluminum Recycling: A Key to Reducing Climate Impact
Aluminum is one of our most used metals — and one of the materials that provides the greatest climate benefits when we recycle it. At Skrotify.se we work every day to maximise the impact of aluminium recycling in Sweden.
Why is aluminum recycling so important?
The production of new aluminium (primary aluminium) is extremely energy intensive. In fact:
- Producing one ton of primary aluminum requires about 14,000 to 17,000 kWh energy (source: European Aluminium Association).
- In the case of new production, approximately 10—12 tonnes of CO₂ per ton of aluminum.
In contrast:
- Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of energy compared to new generation.
- Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by up to 95%.
This makes aluminum one of the most important materials to keep circulating in a climate-positive economy.
Scrotify and the circular flow of aluminum
At Skrotify, we take aluminum recycling seriously. Our digital approach and optimized flows allow us to:
- Secure traceability on every kilogram of aluminum we handle
- Calculate CO₂ savings for each individual delivery
- Optimize transports minimising emissions throughout the chain
- Report climate benefit directly to our customers
We pick up aluminum scrap from:
- Rims and automotive components
- Construction scrap and demolition projects
- Industrial spill
- Electronics and cable scrap
Everything is collected, analyzed and channeled back into production — without losing value or quality.
Climate gains in practice
When we help a customer recycle 1 ton of aluminum:
- Saved about 14,000 kWh of energy
- Avoided about 9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
- Corresponds to the climate benefit of:
- Reduce emissions equivalent to driving about 4 average passenger cars for an entire year
- Or grow about 200 trees over a year (source: US EPA Carbon Calculator)
Every kilogram of aluminum makes a difference. At Skrotify, every delivery counts!
Aluminum recycling of the future
As Sweden moves towards increased electrification, energy-efficient buildings and sustainable mobility, the role of aluminium will only grow. It implies:
- Increased demand for quality recycled aluminium
- Higher requirements for traceability and environmental data
- New innovations in sorting and refining
Skrotify continuously invests in systems that meet tomorrow's circular aluminum handling requirements.
